One of the best things you can do to raise literate children, is to create a print-rich environment for them. By now, you know how much emphasis we place on pre-literacy and literacy skills for our children. So you can imagine our delight when one of our blog sponsors - Monarca Language - agreed to giveaway a set of their Spanish classroom posters to one MommyMaestra reader!

We know a lot of Spanish & bilingual education teachers follow along, but this giveaway is also for parents who are eager to nurture their child's biliteracy skills. Are you teaching your child to speak or read in Spanish? These wonderful posters are a great tool for both Spanish learners and beginning readers. They are a lovely way to decorate your child's bedroom, the refrigerator, your home library or classroom (ahem - homeschoolers!), or any spot in your home.

You can use the posters in conjunction with your Monarca Language subscription, or to supplement any curriculum.

Teachers, wouldn't these posters be a wonderful addition to your classroom decor? The set comes with more than two dozen posters - 29 to be exact - covering a range of topics, including the seasons, numbers, shapes, and classroom rules & activities.

I love how they are colorful and adorable, perfect for attracting your child's attention. Parents, in addition to hanging them up around the house, be sure to take the time to point them out and talk about what they represent.

The winner will receive a downloadable file from Monarca Language so that you can print up however many you need. You might prefer to print just a few at a time and switch them out over the course of the year. This helps to keep your child engaged and learning.

Free Preschool Printables in Spanish About Emotions

Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links.

This season's weather has our moods swinging back and forth like a crazed pendulum. One day it's 70 degrees and the next it is negative one. So this month's emotion-themed printables from our sponsor, Monarca Language, are absolutely appropriate!

The Spanish vocabulary cards focus on emotions: from feliz to triste to emocionado and more. Print them on cardstock, then have your child color them in and cut them out. You can laminate them to help them last longer. Then take turns telling a story with your cards.

If you've been saving your cards from the previous months, then you can encourage your child to mix them all together to create more elaborate stories.

The second activity sheet has your child identify and complete the pattern using facial expressions to display emotions.

Free Winter-Themed Printables in Spanish for Preschoolers {Printable}

This month's winter-themed printables from our sponsor, Monarca Language, are adorable! I hope you like them as much as we have.

This post contains affiliate links.

The Spanish vocabulary cards focus on where animals find shelter in the winter. Print them on cardstock, then have your child color them in and cut them out. Then take turns telling a story with your cards.

If you've been saving your cards from the previous months, then you can encourage your child to mix them all together to create more elaborate stories.

The other activity sheet focuses on animals from the Americas and Antarctica. Simple and sweet, I LOVE that they got it right with polar bears in the Arctic and penguins in the Antarctic. No, the two never meet. (I'm sorry. The former zookeeper in me loves, loves, loves that this is shown correctly.)

Free Día de Acción de Gracias Printables for Elementary

Preschool Thanksgiving printables in Spanish

Fall is quickly becoming my favorite time of year. I miss the changing of the seasons that we experienced when we lived on the East Coast. So many beautiful lessons that my children learned during that time. In fact, autumn provides endless opportunities for learning, and today's free family-friendly Thanksgiving-themed printables from our sponsor, Monarca Language, is a wonderful example of one.

Spanish Printable Elementary Activities for Fall

The Día de Acción de Gracias Word Search is great for helping kids develop vocabulary, letter recognition skills, and introduces spelling. To change things up, my kids alternate between circling and using highlighters to mark the found words. You can do this too, and even ask them to choose fall-colored highlighters or markers.

The family tree activity is simply adorable and I love how it helps develop a child's fine-motor skills and reinforces the concept of family relationships as they draw their family members in the tree. It even boosts pre-math skills as they practice counting from one/uno to five/cinco.

Free Spanish Halloween Story Cards & Letter Match {Printables}

Editor's Note: Monarca Language is no longer in business. However, these free downloads are still great for children so we want to leave this post up so that you can access the resource. Scroll down to learn about some alternative programs that are similar to Monarca Language!

Halloween is less than two weeks away, so this month's free printables from Monarca Language are all about día de las brujas. Don't forget that Monarca Language is a subscription-based site with lesson plans, printables, activities, and more for Spanish-speaking and Spanish-learning 3 and 4 year olds. Parents, if you are homeschooling your preschooler, then this is a complete curriculum online to help you prepare them for kindergarten, helping you to teach your child all the basic pre-literacy and early math skills they need to flourish when they start school.

Today's printables are so cute! I know that your child will love them. Print the story/vocabulary cards on cardstock and then have your child color them in and cut them out. Then he can use them to make up his own stories. Storytelling is a great way for your child to learn intuitively about sequence, plot, characters and more. Be sure to help your child learn these concepts by asking him questions to make him think about the story.

The accompanying letter match page helps your child to develop her letter recognition skills and helps her recognize beginning sounds.

To go with these printables, here are some fun books and a hilarious video I found on YouTube. Parents, please preview the video to make sure that it is appropriate for your child.

Free Back-to-School Printables in Spanish

This month's free printables from Monarca Language are all about going back to school. One of the subjects that preschoolers and kindergartners learn about is their own body, specifically their senses. What better way to nurture your child's inner scientist than by exploring how their own senses provide so much information to their young brains? There are tons of activities you can do in association with this theme, so after telling you a bit about the printables, I'll share with you some additional resources.

The first printable is a set of vocabulary cards centered around the senses. Con mis ojos yo veo. Con mis manos yo toco. And so on. Taste is the only sense not included in this set, but I think that what I would do is cut out a blank piece of paper the same size as the other four, and write Con mi lengua yo pruebo. across the bottom. Then have your child draw his or her own picture. When the cards are complete, have your child cut them out and use them to make up his or her own story.

The second printable is an easy way to boost both math and literacy skills at the same time. Your child just counts the number of school supplies in each section and circles the correct number. What a great way to develop number recognition and counting skills! You could even have your child find these supplies at home then have her sort and count them.

Here are some additional resources you may find useful:

Paso Partners: Offers a free, bilingual downloadable curriculum and resource guide for bilingual teachers of K - 3rd grade. Their kindergarten lesson plans include a section on The Five Senses/Los Cinco Sentidos.

Free Spanish Jungle Animal & Action Printables

Jungle Animals in Spanish Booklet

It's already August! And that means it is time for some new free printables from Monarca Language. Today's set includes pages on jungle animals that your nene can color, cut, and put together to form a booklet, as well as action cards for coloring, cutting, and acting out.

The jungle animal booklet was extra fun for my kids because it gave them the opportunity to get out their daddy's wildlife collection (they don't get to play with it very often). This really reinforced the vocabulary and made learning more interactive. The book focuses on animals and colors.

And if you subscribe to Monarca Language's newsletter, you'll find a free printable in this month's newsletter that allows your child to cut and paste jungle animals onto a jungle scene. It's a great complement to this booklet. And super fun!

The action cards can be printed up on one sheet, colored in and then cut up. Then your kids can take turns pulling a card from the pile and acting it out for everyone else to guess. Charades anyone?

Now, time for some additional resources to complement the jungle animal printables:

YouTube:
• Alex en la selva. I love this little series for preschoolers! And you will, too. Actually, there are many episodes exploring wildlife, but only three that are dedicated to the jungle are free on YouTube. You can subscribe to their channel and see more episodes here. Check out this episode where Alex encounters a lion...

Free Beach-Themed Printables

I'm so happy to be able to share with you these free Spanish printables from Monarca Language. Every month, we'll have a few pages that you can print out for your preschooler, to help them prepare for entering kindergarten.

This month's theme is the ocean. Though the printables are in Spanish, the instructions are in both Spanish and English for those of you who may not be completely fluent in both languages, but are trying to raise bilingual children.

The first printable is a set of vocabulary cards that your child can color in, cut out, and use to tell a story. And the second printable is a matching page to develop fine-motor skills, as well as vocabulary.

I think that these printables would go really well with some fun ocean-themed crafts like the ones on my Ocean Life Activities board on Pinterest.

And you can follow up with some of these awesome books on ocean life...

Spanish Preschool Curriculum Review: Monarca Language & {PRINTABLE}

If you have a 3- or 4-year-old child at home, then this summer is the perfect time to start preparing them for entering school and kindergarten. I want to emphasize once again, how important it is for children this age to either attend a preschool or be worked with at home to develop the skills they'll need when they enter kindergarten. I am reminded of a 2000 study by the department of education that showed that half of the Latino children starting kindergarten could not recognize all the letters of the alphabet, no surprise given that Latino kids are less likely to be enrolled in a preschool program than any other group.

I have
written extensively about the importance of parents working with their children at home to teach them basic concepts such as letter and number recognition, shapes, colors, and more. You can find tons of bilingual resources here on MommyMaestra simply by searching for "preschool" in my sidebar.

And now I have a new one to add to the list! I recently had the opportunity to explore Monarca Language, an website with high-quality materials in Spanish for 3 and 4 year olds. The subscription-based site covers math logic and pre-literacy skills, as well as fine-motor coordination, reasoning and attention span.

With a subscription you can get access to the following themed printables and activities: Seasonal Materials, Reading & Writing Corner, Math Circle, and Coloring Activities. (The coloring pages are actually free to everyone.) And you don't have to worry that your kids will get bored with the same old worksheets because they are adding new materials every month. They even include phonetics instruction, in addition to letter recognition. I was impressed to read that 85% of the participating children finish the program reading and writing efficiently.

I really do like the easy and age-appropriate printables. They use many of the concepts my own children used when learning to recognize numbers and letters. Best of all, you can choose the level of difficulty and proceed at your child's own pace. All of them are in Spanish, with easy to understand directions in both English and Spanish for teachers and parents.

The fact that they include math is especially exciting as so often program focus on pre-literacy skills and forget or ignore early math skills. Really and truly, as I looked throughout this program I was very pleased to see that it covers all of the basic skills and concepts a child would learn in preschool.

I also love that there is no long-term commitment and you can cancel your subscription at any time. This makes me feel like Monarca Language is so confident in their materialsprintables, activities, and newsletter. You can even test it out with a one-month free trial.

FREE PRINTABLE

The kind people at Monarca Language have allowed me to share the following printable with MommyMaestra readers. It is part of their Seasonal Materials and features La Primavera: Animales de la Granja. Best suited for 3-year-olds. For more free printables from Monarca Language, click on the words "Monarca Language" in the section below this article.

If you already subscribe to Monarca, leave some feedback in the comments to help other readers decide if this is a program for them.
