TpT ClassFund
I know there are a lot of educators following MommyMaestra who use TeachersPayTeachers. So I want to be sure you know about a new tool they have to help you raise funds for those TpT resources that you have stashed in your wish list.
(Hey, I totally get it. I have a confession. I just checked and I currently have 330 items in my wish list! ¡Qué locura!)
Anyway, did you know that TpT has rolled out a new feature called TpT ClassFund? It allows you to create a TpT ClassFund page and your community can help you get the resources your students need. There no fundraising minimum. AND you can use the funds right away. Yay!
You just fill in the fields and then share it with your friends and colleagues, students' parents, PTO, neighbors, local business owners... WHOEVER you want! Share it on your social media, in an email, in a newsletter, post it on your blog or your school's website... you see where this is going.
The best part is that it is FREE!
Seriously, I know that school budgets are tight. So this is really a blessing for educators.
Ready to get started? Click here.
Enjoy and good luck!

#TeachersAppreciateTeachers Classroom Makeover Contest

It is Teacher Appreciation Week, and you know how much I appreciate all the hard work that homeschool and public/private school teachers do for their students. So when I saw that Carson-Dellosa Publishing is hosting a contest in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, I wanted to share because the grand prize winner and their nominator will receive a classroom makeover from Carson-Dellosa!
Carson-Dellosa Publishing wants to hear about the exceptional educators who are making a difference in the lives of children—while also supporting their colleagues! Now through April 23 (that's this SUNDAY!), teachers can nominate a fellow teacher who has helped them get to where they are today.
To nominate them, visit Carson-Dellosa's Facebook or Instagram pages and tag them in the comments, add the #TeachersAppreciateTeachers hashtag, and explain why they should be appreciated.
I looked through the contest rules, and nothing says that homeschool teachers aren't eligible. So I'll be putting in for it, too.
Winners will be revealed during #TeacherAppreciationWeek. The grand prize winner and their nominator will receive a classroom makeover from Carson-Dellosa!
There are not a lot of nominations as far as I can see, so your chances are good. I'd love to see some Hispanic, homeschool, or bilingual ed teachers win!
One grand prize winner and their nominator will each receive a $400 Carson-Dellosa gift certificate for a classroom makeover.
Three runner-ups and their nominators will each receive a $50 Carson-Dellosa gift certificate.
I'm sure you're familiar with them, but Carson-Dellosa Publishing is a fantastic educational product company. On their site, you'll find everything from classroom organization to learning centers to guided reading. They have products for homeschoolers and special needs. I really enjoy looking through their products.

NOTE: This is not a sponsored post. This is just me sharing info I saw on my FB feed and an opportunity for my educator followers! xo

Free Author Skype Opportunity for Teachers
Attention teachers! Hispanic Heritage Month is coming up and it would be the perfect time to invite a Hispanic author into your classroom. There are SO many BENEFITS to having professional writers visit with your students. Authors bring a different perspective and voice to classrooms, they encourage students to express their own opinions and tell their own stories, and (in this instance) highlight the importance and value in bilingualism.
Classroom Skype Opportunities
If you think this would be a great activity for your classroom, I have a unique opportunity to share! My friend, Mariana Llanos, author of seven children's books, is offering classroom Skype opportunities...most of them for free! Mariana has designed four different lesson plans that last about 45 minutes. They include a Q&A at the end, so your students can ask whatever they want.
The lesson plans she's developed cover these topics:
- Imagination & Writing (Free)
- A Rollercoaster of Emotions (Free)
- Research and Creative Writing (Free)
- Mock Election & Superpowers ($35)
Mariana is such a talented storyteller with children of her own, so I know that her visit to your classroom would be engaging, informative, and educational. She's had lots of experience with these Skype lessons because she's visited more than 60 classrooms! Visit her site here to learn more about each one and to read about things to do with your students before and after each visit. Or if you would prefer for her to visit your class in person, click here.
Psst! Mariana also offers Skype visits to immersion classes!

ADE DIY Guides & Grants for K-12 Educators
The best teachers in this country, take important concepts and make them relevant to real life. They think outside the box and create learning situations that engage and motivate their students. Those special teachers who truly care about their students and who go above and beyond deserve to be recognized for their passion, commitment, and ingenuity.
The Allen Distinguished Educators (ADE) award program recognizes and rewards teachers who “break the mold” of traditional schooling to provide students with opportunities to become thinkers, makers, and creators through computer science, engineering, and entrepreneurship.
In addition, ADE is enabling a growing subset of teachers who want to employ 21st-century learning strategies with their students through open-educator resources. It recently launched 11 new DIY Guides & Grants for K-12 educators to adapt and implement ADE-designed projects in their classrooms, as well as 14 new Roadmaps for building and growing innovative education programs. These new resources were developed by the 2016 class of ADEs.
These Guides are diverse. For example, in Coding Cultural Understanding, students create a game that tells the story of a hunter or gatherer from an indigenous culture of their own choice. Or in 53 Miles per Burrito, students must answer the question: “Can I ride 53 miles on a bike from the energy of a single burrito?” They must define their variables, collect their data, analyze their data, and present their results. By the end of the data collection, students should have all the information they need to design a burrito that would provide them with the exact caloric content necessary to ride 53 miles. Other guides include creating arcade games and designing a hermit crab habitat.
While many of the current guides were implemented in high schools, all of the guides can be modified for younger grades.
ADE wants to help you implement these programs in your classrooms, too, and so each of these guides also has a grant associated with it. The purpose of the DIY Grants (up to $1000) is to help us enhance the replicability of the DIY Guides, as well as their adaptability to a range of school types, locations, and grade levels. They are looking for teachers who work in school environments different from those of the ADEs who created them. The current application period opened on July 20th and you can apply between now and September 5th.
